The Knit Nut has been delivering results since I started felting purses 15 years ago. My goal is to provide a one-of-a-kind, hand made purse or bag that you will love and will recieve notice from others when you carry it.
To keep prices down, and because I love to knit, I only charge for the yarn; sometimes for the handles and adornments. I often knit the handles or find unusual and usable things to use. Adornments are found everywhere and especially in my girlfriend’s jewelry trunk. (Yes, trunk)

What is felting? It is a process of binding fibers together tightly to create felt. Only wool yarn is used. The bag is knitted considerably larger than I expect the bag to be after felting. I secure the knitted bag in a pillow case and use atop loader washing machine and HOT water. I use the short cycle on my machine. It is the HOT water and the aggitation that bind the fibers. I usually run the bags through 4-6 short cycles before they felt as tight as the yarn allows. Then I shape and block the bags and air dry. The fun thing about felting is that I am never sure of the size or shape or the meld of the colors. It is always a SURPRISE! I have the original bag I made 15 years ago. It has been “well used” as a purse, a book bag, and a tote of various things. I wash it in hot water and one cycle and it comes out looking like a new bag!
Thanks for supporting my hobby and know that when I sell a bag it feels like giving away a child! I love the bag but I know it is going to a good home and will be well loved.
